Cambodia's Most Amazing Hidden Ruins

A small path leads through the jungle. A myna bird screeches in a tree a hundred feet above as you crash through the foliage and scale a number of randomly fallen sandstone blocks. Suddenly, you find yourself in an ancient stone hallway. An endless number of Celestial apsara dancers smile at you as you pass by. The hallway opens up back into the jungle. Above you, a fig tree grows out of a stone tower, lifting the causeway in its roots and grasping a massive stone face which seems to peer down at you, an intruder in the lost city.

Capable of fulfilling the dreams of archeologist and adventurer alike, the ancient lost cities and magnificent hidden temples of Cambodia are still waiting to be discovered deep in the jungles of the country's Northwest region. Inaccessible until just recently due to decades of war and isolation, these remote temples remain off the tourist trail for the simple reason that Cambodia is a country with too many magnificent archeological treasures. Visitors come to see Angkor Wat and the numerous magnificent archeological sites located nearby. Few visitors to Cambodia venture to the remote jungles only hours from Angkor because, it seems, there are plenty of interesting temples to see only minutes away.

The Cambodian jungles, however, hide many lost treasures that rival even Angkor Wat itself. For adventurous travelers who want to experience the feeling of discovering a lost city, these top sites should not be missed.
